The Dean of Students Office fosters an environment where every Jaguar can succeed. Guided by the mission of the University of South Alabama, we provide holistic support, crisis resources, and personal growth opportunities to enhance your overall quality of life and prepare you to lead as productive global citizen.

I need help with:

Food, Financial, or Housing Insecurity
Connect with resources like South CARES, Jag Pantry, and the Housing Assistance Program.
Counseling and Mental Health Resources
Get free, confidential individual therapy, group counseling, and 24/7 crisis response.
Educational Accommodations
Register with CEADR for classroom accommodations, extended testing time, or campus accessibility assistance.
Finding My Place on Campus
Make friends, join a club, and get connected to one or more of our 270 student organizations. 
▼   Can the Dean of Students Office excuse my missed class?

While individual faculty members set attendance policies for their courses, our office can issue an official absence notification in cases of documented illness/medical reasons, death in the family, and family emergencies as listed in the Faculty Handbook, section 6.2.3. 

To request a notification be sent to your instructors, please email your documentation to studentaffairs@southalabama.edu.

▼   I need to see a doctor, but I don't have insurance. What do I do?

The Student Health Center will see students without insurance or with insurance not accepted at the Student Health Center. For more information visit the Student Health Center website. 

You can purchase the Student & Scholar Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) provided by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. For more information, visit the SHIP website.

▼   How do I give permission to my parents or a third party to view my grades, financial aid bill and other academic records?
You can grant access through the South Alabama Family Connection Portal. Check out the FERPA Guide for Students for more information. You choose specifically who can access your records and what they are allowed to see. You can also revoke or update this access at any time.
